The National Weather Service in Fort Worth placed the majority of North Texas under an excessive heat warning through 9 p.m. Thursday as rising temperatures are expected to become dangerously hot.

The temperature at DFW International Airport reached 106 degrees at 4:35 p.m. Wednesday — making it the hottest day so far this year — and the heat index hit 115, according to the weather service. The low should drop into the 80s and Thursday’s forecast is similar with a slightly lower high temperature of 102, according to the KXAS-TV (NBC5) forecast.
There’s little to no possibility of rain until Saturday night into Sunday when the chances increase slight because of an expected change in pressure, the forecast says.

The weather service is encouraging people to practice heat safety, including drinking plenty of water and avoid spending extended amounts of time outdoors.

Due to hot temperatures, lack of precipitation and some breeze, North Texas counties west of Interstate 35 are at an elevated fire danger risk, according to the weather service.
