Bubba's fried chicken has opened its second restaurant in 38 years, in Frisco

The owners of fried-chicken restaurant Bubba's Cooks Country have finally opened a second location.

The Frisco restaurant, open as of Feb. 5, is located on Preston Road, between Warren Parkway and Lebanon Road.

The original Bubba's, opened in 1981, is across the street from Southern Methodist University in Dallas. It's a comfort-food staple in Dallas-Fort Worth, selling breakfast, lunch and a winner, winner of a chicken dinner with Southern items like fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans and a roll. (Whatever you do: Get the roll.)

Bubba's new, suburban offshoot will have an almost identical menu to the original, except it will also sell a chicken and waffles sandwich and a chicken and waffles meal, says company president Joel Vinyard.

We called the Bubba's in Frisco one of D-FW's most exciting new restaurants opening in 2019 because of the family's beloved original location and because of their other well-known restaurants, Babe's Chicken Dinner House.

This family knows fried chicken.

The Vinyards picked Frisco because it's close to their homes and because the Babe's in Frisco is one of their most successful restaurants.

"We've been looking for the right kind of location for a long time," Vinyard says. "But it was about finding the right location and for the company to be in the right place to do it. ... "We truthfully lean on God a lot to guide us on those things," he says.

The new Bubba's Cooks Country is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and is located at 4585 Preston Road, Frisco.
