Listen to Episode 1 of our audio report on Amber Guyger's murder trial: 'Who was Botham Jean?'

In our new series of special audio reports, 'The Death of Botham Jean: Amber Guyger on Trial,' reporter Jennifer Emily explores this complicated and polarizing Dallas case.

Welcome to a series of special audio reports by The Dallas Morning News: "The Death of Botham Jean: Amber Guyger on Trial."

Jean was shot and killed last September in his Dallas apartment when Guyger, his downstairs neighbor and a police officer who was off-duty at the time, says she mistook his home for her own and believed he was an intruder.

Over multiple short episodes, News reporter Jennifer Emily explores Jean's death and Guyger's murder trial with the help of attorneys, fellow journalists and others.

In this debut episode, Emily talks with Jean’s mother about her son and expectations for the trial. Allison Jean speaks from her home in Castries, St. Lucia, the same house where Botham Jean grew up on the Caribbean island.
