Comerica offers free paper shredding at bank locations around D-FW

The Dallas bank’s new self-serve Comerica ShredSite locations offer free shredding and recycling services for anyone looking to safely destroy documents.

If your stack of personal paperwork is piling up, it may be time to find a shredder. According to the Federal Trade Commission, more than 1.1 million cases of identity theft were reported in 2022. Whether business owners need to protect their customers’ information or individuals want a safe place to toss their mail, Comerica offers a way for all North Texans to dispose of documents securely, easily, and without any cost.

At select bank locations, bank customers and community members now have access to Comerica ShredSite, where they can independently slip their documents into a drop slot for free without requiring the help of a bank employee. Comerica partners with Iron Mountain, a trusted information management provider, who safely destroys the documents from each ShredSite.

Whether you’re cleaning up filing cabinets, making room in a home office, going digital with information or just throwing away the day’s mail, you likely have more sensitive data than you think. The FTC recommends collecting mail with personal information from the mailbox as soon as possible and shredding it before putting it in the garbage. Iron Mountain says to watch for documents with a signature, account number, social security number, or medical and legal information. (Think bank statements, utility receipts, voided checks, medical records, credit reports, tax documents, anything with passwords or PINs, pay stubs, expired passports and more.)

Making a difference in North Texas is our "why".

As a bonus, protecting privacy with Comerica ShredSite also protects the planet. In addition to keeping paper out of landfills, Iron Mountain recycles the shredded materials it collects. (According to the company, shredding and recycling 10 tons of paper can save 240 trees.)

ShredSite locations are free to use and open to all community members — no bank account necessary — so anyone with sensitive information or confidential documents can choose a convenient location and drop off papers in a self-service bin. Comerica also hosts an annual Shred Day DFW, a community charity and paper-shredding event, where anyone is welcome to bring documents to be destroyed and recycled. Comerica and Iron Mountain have securely destroyed more than 3.5 million pounds of paper documents since the event’s launch in 2011 and collected $150,000 and more than 75,000 pounds of food for the North Texas Food Bank.
