Community coming together to help others

Help us reach 100,000 donors in 2019

While the long summer days are winding down, the excitement at Communities Foundation of Texas is just ramping up. It's the time when North Texas Giving Day, the nation's largest

community day of giving, lands in our communities...and in our hearts. We, along with thousands of participating nonprofits, are getting prepared and getting pumped for the big event, which is just 11 days away on Sept. 19.

Why are we so passionate about Giving Day? Our answer is simple: Because it's all about community and coming together to help others. We strive to serve as a catalyst, to grow the spirit and power of giving in North Texas. And the great part is. we get to do it with YOU.

We are especially delighted that Dirk and Jessica Nowitzki are championing the effort as this year's honorary chairs. It says volumes about how they feel about North Texas.

Each year, North Texas Giving Day elevates nonprofits and rallies the community, proving that North Texas is bigger and better when we get up and give together. In 2009, Communities Foundation of Texas created North Texas Giving Day to help donors give wisely to local nonprofits. We had no idea how it would evolve, but ten years, 20 counties and more than 2.700 participating nonprofits later, this charitable movement has generated more than $240 million for our region.

We (and the Nowitzkis) aren't the only impassioned ones around here. Nonprofits tell us the primary reasons they participate in North Texas Giving Day are that they're simply able to help more people by raising funds efficiently, increasing their brand visibility, learning best practices and gaining tools that can be used year-round. Donors tell us they like being part of a movement, something bigger, the excellent website, their ability to activate their own networks through FUNdraising pages, and the new ability to donate their time in addition to their money. Wins for everyone all around.

This year, we will continue with 10 days of scheduled giving from Sept. 9-18 to the thousands of certified nonprofits listed on www.NorthTexasGivingDay.org. Giving day itself will be 6 a.m. to midnight on Sept. 19.

Catch the fever with us. Whether that passion looks like care for animals, education, health and wellness, social justice, veteran services, empowering youth and families, supporting older adults or supporting LGBTQ community causes, there is something for you to do on North Texas Giving Day. There is nothing quite like doing good in the community we all share. I hope to see you online Sept. 9-19 standing in support of making our community better and helping others along the way.
