Immersive Disney Animation show closes months early in Dallas

A spokesman for the show said it was issuing refunds as productions were cut short in other cities as well.

Immersive Disney, a popular projection show staged in a repurposed building near the Dallas Farmers Market, abruptly shut down Tuesday, months ahead of schedule.

A spokesman for the show, Nick Harkin, confirmed the closure in an email Tuesday evening.

“We are currently working on contacting our guests and issuing refunds for ticket purchases, as taking care of our guests is our primary goal at the moment,” Harkin wrote.

A box office employee reached by phone at the venue, Lighthouse Artspace, referred inquiries to the Dallas page of the company’s website. However, the Dallas page appeared to have been taken down by Wednesday morning. The main portion of the website also did not list Dallas among the cities home to exhibits.

Lighthouse Immersive, the Canadian group that produces the shows across North America, announced similar closures Tuesday in Houston and Atlanta. In Los Angeles, the show was postponed until further notice, with Lighthouse citing production delays.

In Boston, Denver, Detroit, Minneapolis, Nashville and Columbus, Ohio, productions are being extended through Aug. 13 due to demand, according to Lighthouse’s website. Toronto is extended through Sept. 4.

Fans in cities where the show was cut short took to social media to express disappointment.

Immersive Disney presented the music and visual elements of Disney films such as Encanto, Zootopia and Frozen in addition to classics The Lion King, Peter Pan and Pinocchio. It includes interactive elements such as floor designs that move with the audience and bracelets that light up in sync with the presentation.

Tickets started at $29.99.

Previous Lighthouse productions in Dallas included Immersive Van Gogh and Immersive Frida Kahlo.
