Mavericks announce signing of first-round pick Olivier-Maxence Prosper

The Mavericks said Prosper will wear No. 18.

Olivier-Maxence Prosper is officially a Dallas Maverick.

The team announced it signed Prosper in a release early Monday morning. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, per team policy.

The Mavericks made a splash in the 2023 NBA draft by trading back into the first round and acquiring the rights to Prosper with the 24th pick. The deal with Sacramento also included center Richaun Holmes in exchange for cash considerations.

“O-Max was considered one of the best wing defenders in college basketball last year and plays with tremendous energy,” Mavericks General Manager Nico Harrison said in the release. “We are excited to put pen to paper and officially sign him.”

The Mavericks entered the offseason in major need of an improved defense. Re-signing Kyrie Irving was the priority, but the Mavericks improved on the defensive end of the floor in the draft with Prosper and fellow first-rounder Dereck Lively II.

Prosper had a strong Summer League with the 4-1 Mavericks, who concluded their run in a win against the Atlanta Hawks Sunday evening. Prosper averaged 12.6 points (.439 FG%, .821 FT%), 5.4 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 0.8 steals and 25.2 minutes per game in five games.
