Jordan Walker powers Mavericks past Hawks to finish strong Summer League

The Mavericks outscored the Hawks 36-18 in the third quarter.

The Dallas Mavericks are a winning basketball team again. Well, at least the 2023 Summer League squad is.

The Mavericks concluded their Summer League run with a 101-80 win over the Atlanta Hawks Sunday night after a dominant third quarter and compelling performance from Jordan Walker off the bench. Walker scored 22 points in 16 minutes, including this contested layup in traffic.

This summer was a dramatic step up from last year when Dallas failed to get a single win. The difference Sunday evening was the third quarter, in which the Mavericks out-scored the Hawks 36-18. All five starters scored in double figures.

Mavericks first-round draft pick Dereck Lively II scored 10 points on 5-of-5 shooting with six rebounds. And dunks. Several dunks.

TCU and Lancaster product Mike Miles Jr. added 12 points and eight assists. The Mavericks, who missed the playoffs last season despite trading for Kyrie Irving at the deadline, are looking for depth and defense.

While they made their splash this offseason in free agency by bringing back Irving, perhaps some of the answers are on this Summer League team.
